Department Overview

A brand new function within our business, the Marketing Planning Department is headed-up by the Marketing Planning Manager, who leads a team of Event Planning Managers and Event Assistant Planning Managers.

Exactly what you’ll be doing

Although this graduate role is based within the planning function, you’ll gain exposure to other areas of the Marketing team too, helping to further broaden your knowledge and understanding. You’ll start by working as part of a team on key events such as Christmas/January Sales/ Easter/ Back to School and Category Launches, and, as you progress and develop your skills, you’ll begin to manage the planning of events independently.

The planning team has three areas of key responsibility and you’ll be involved in all three. Firstly, we’re responsible for populating and managing the marketing plan. Secondly, we’re responsible for generating the idea or brief for events and setting the ambition for how we’d like events to run. So, we look at things such as which customers we should target, and what the products, prices and offers should be. The objective being to make all our events fresh and exciting for customers. Finally, we make sure that the message or offer that is being delivered in these events is constant across all functions of the business. You’ll also be part of the review process following events, working with the customer insight team and market research to generate any new recommendations.

As with any role there will be a certain amount of process involved. And, a huge part of this will be following critical paths to ensure that events are delivered to demanding deadlines.

At the end of the scheme if you’ve performed successfully, you’ll have secured a permanent position with Wilkinson.

The skills you’ll need to succeed

You can be a Graduate in any subject, although Business, Marketing and Media would be a good match. Importantly though, you’ll need to be self-confident, pro-active and a forward thinker - someone with lots of creative, ‘outside the box’ ideas. You’ll also need strong attention to detail and be able to engage with people at all levels. This will include speaking to large groups of people and communicating with passion and a level of influence.
